It’s already summer in Florida, so I’m trying to move away from Old Fashioned’s, Manhattans, etc.
I’m a Daiquiri fan and this drink is great. Plantation 5 year rum from Barbados works really well and the clove flavors from the Falernum are spot on. What a wonderful drink.

I accidentally left out the sugar syrup the first time I made this. Tried again with it, and I’m not convinced it even needs it (I’ll admit that I do prefer slightly sour drinks). Very tasty.

Wow, the orange curaçao is a stand out here on first sip. (I used Pierre Ferrand.) Will try again with Doorly's as per Mr. Hinojos' recommendation.

Made again using Barbados rum. Perfect. Not too sweet with a wonderful citrus flavour.
The choice of rum will make a difference. You need one which is not adulterated by sugar syrup.
While I love the funk of Jamaican, Martinique, and Haitian rhum, it will through this cocktail off balance. Stick with Barbados.

Indeed, made this again with Mount Gay Eclipse and it was perfect! Thanks for the suggestion.

A very good cocktail, but not my favorite - I thought that the curacao made it a bit too orangey.

The most outstanding daiquiri I tried, though clearly your falernum is half of the magic.

Terrific! Enough rum that I could enjoy the funky nose using Havana Club Añejo Clásico. The rum, citrus and other flavors were in perfect balance. Nice upgrade in complexity from a standard daiquiri.

Great flavor profile present. The rum and the Falernum work great together. I will second the thanks of John Hinojos about this site, it has greatly expanded my joy/knowledge of making cocktails for friends.

Being a longtime favourite cocktail, I used funky Clement VO rhum agricole today and 2 drops Umami Bitters. Wow that is really another step forward!

A classic. Subtle but also flavoursome and fragrant with all the elements working well together. Made with Havana Club 3, Taylors Falernum and Giffard Cruracao.

Interesting and unique daiquiri rift, sweet but tangy and almost sour finish. each sip cycles quite well.

This was the first drink we tried when we found Difford's Guide. We were not rating then, but it is still one of my favourites. Used a Barbados and a California made falernum. Was just a wonderful and I remembered. However, it is now on our favourite List.
Thank you again for this wonderful site which has expanded our liquor cabinet and cocktail tastes over the years.

I live this drink, but it's always tricky to find the right Rum and falernum for it. My Falernum (Revolte from Germany) is more intense end ginger forward than Taylor's and together with Dry Curacao it tends to overpower light rums. I used Don Q Reserve 7 tonight and I believe I need to scale to 7 cl or add a more flavorful British style rum.
With Jamaican Rum only it becomes something lika a may tai served up.

Woderfullcocktail, as I am a falernum lover. As I was in the mood, I added a dash each saline solution and Peychauds and for this doubled the Sugar syrup. We liked the result very much.

Wow, one of the best Daquari's I have had in a very long time. 2nd one swapped out the Golden Rum with Macadamia Nut rum and cut the Falernum in half. amazing nutty flavor.

Tremendous cocktail! The orange curacao can easily come to the front of this one, so be cautious with the proportions there. Made properly though, this is a fantastically delicious cocktail, and I loved that the flavor profile stands out as unique from a lot of the other classic cocktails that are seeing a resurgence today - in a world of Old Fashioneds, Paper Planes, Negronis, Last Words and the like, I feel like this one slips into a really nice void. Can't wait to make it for friends.

One of the lovely things about this site is being introduced to new guilty pleasures. I can’t remember which cocktail I bought Velvet Falernum for originally but I’ve fallen in love with its smokey sweetness - a bit like a good Islay malt but without the sensation that you’re chewing on cigars*. This cocktail is a beatifully balanced showcase of that.

* I said that like it was a bad thing - I’m a big fan of Islay malts and Laphroaig in particular but know it’s a bit full on for some.

Lovely drink and exactly as described, tangy with a hint of cloves. As I only had falernum syrup, not liqueur, I elected to skip the simple syrup; it remained nicely balanced in my view!
