I looked up the original recipe and went to the trouble of making some absinthe bitters, just scaled down by a quarter. Totally worth the extra effort! I'll keep the extra for when I want to splurge a little or make this for someone else.

Woah this is really good! Out of bourbon, subbed Jack Daniels and reduced the rich syrup to 5ml. All the flavors are in perfect harmony, an exceptional chorus!

I'm not a fan of whiskey sours, of which this is a variant, and at first sip I thought I'd made a bad choice. However, as I sipped more of it, it grew on me. The mint, grenadine, and absinthe add a nice complexity of flavor. I did substitute commercial simple syrup for the 2:1 specified in the recipe, and that probably balanced it a bit.

Maybe my lemons are too sour, but this cocktail isn't too sweet at all. It's delicious, but everything is about lmeon and absinthe. I didn't have mint. Whiskey here just adds strength, IMHO.

Had a Millionaire Martini yesterday, so would have to follow up this this cocktail. It is wonderful.
Also found it a bit sweet and would omit the sugar syrup the next time. Did find the mint and absinthe helped cut some of the sugar. We tend to like our cocktail a bit on the dry side, so it may be perfect if you prefer a cocktail which is sweeter.

Great mix. Combination of absinthe with mint leaves is awesome. A bit too sweet to my taste. Not sure if sugar cane syrup is needed?
