Almost too easy to drink. A fine choice for those new to brandy/cognac cocktails.

Had to sub 10 ml of the cognac for calvodos as run out, but worked well if not better?

This cocktail was amazing. Normally I do not like things terribly sweet, but it has a very nice sweet and sour thing going. The combination of ingredients also results with a cognac grapefruit vibe with a touch of elderflower.

I would opine that this cocktail would be too sweet for sophisticated palates. But my young, sopping wet palate loved it! I do think it makes it an anytime drink though, as it's not gripping enough to be a good pre-meal drink.

Way too much lemon juice. Could be tasty if better balanced. Try same proportions of cognac & elderflower, but 1/2oz. of lemon juice.

Oh, Simon, I am so sorry! I meant to put this in my private notes section for the next time I make the drink, not the public comments. Many apologies. (But, yeah, the new proportions look tasty. HA.)

Agreed. I've cut the lemon but also upped the cognac a smidgeon. More booze, less juice! A very different but better cocktail.

I upped the Cognac to 60ml and found it to be a very nice drink. A bit tart to start off with but the Elderflower seemed to push through with the body filled out by the Cognac.

Lacking the balance of a traditional Sidecar, this is one for the sweet toothed........

I don’t think I came across this drink before Simon’s modification on account of your comment, but sipping now one made with the 5-4-3 formula, I find the lemon a bit overwhelming, and will try 45 ml elderflower and 25 ml lemon juice next time.

Agreed. I've rebalanced by upping the cognac and cutting back a tad on the elderflower liqueur.
