first recipe I 'tried' from this site ... only had Sailor Jerry's spiced rum, but as a good Canadian in the winter I have unfiltered apple juice(we call it cider) on hand. was delicious. will do again. probably with better rum though, lol

I really enjoyed this. Smith & Cross is the star of the show, but the sugar syrup and apple juice help take some of the edge off and temper some of the stranger notes. Bitters add a bit of complexity, but it's subtle. Probably a great option for introducing someone to S & C?

We live in the Boston area, so we will have to have one of these (Cocktail of the Day) to commemorate the anniversary of the Molasses Flood on January 15th, for sure!

I made it differently due to ingredients on hand. Wray & Nephew Overproof Jamaican rum, unsweetened applesauce, Angostura bitters - delicious. But I don’t understand : recipe calls for unsweetened cloudy apple juice, but History section says “cheap is best”, so should one use cheap clear sweetened apple juice??

Dick always preferred cheap 'clear' sweet apple juice for this cocktail. I prefer to go premium. If going cheap then use less or omit sugar syrup.

What a very flavourful nightcap or evening sipping cocktail. Would highly recommend even for after-dinner.
