Altagracia, who is the patron saint of The Dominican Republic, is based on an interpretation of the Virgin Mary.
One of the many stories of Altagracia suggests that a portrait of her kept disappearing from a house, only to keep turning up in an orange tree. Another story comes from a book called The Gift of Gracias, and explains how the Lady of Altagracia saved a family's farm through an abundant orange harvest.
Whichever story you prefer, it can generally be agreed that the festival is associated with oranges, so we decided that A Triple Orange would not only reflect this, but is a delicious cocktail as well.
