Serve in a Toddy glass

Ingredients:
7 dried Clove
2 barspoon Honey
3 oz Boiling water
2 12 oz Cockburn's Tawny Eyes Port
1 oz Orange juice (freshly squeezed)
× 1 1 serving

Garnish: Dust with grated nutmeg

How to make:

Use a heatproof glass and preheat by filling with boiling water. MUDDLE cloves in the base of shaker. Add boiling water and STIR in honey and other ingredients. Fine strain into glass. (Consider heating in MICROWAVE for twenty seconds to boost temperature).

History:

Our quick 'n' easy take on this variation of the 18th century Negus - reputedly a favourite of the writer Dr. Johnson. The traditional recipe begins with studding an orange with cloves and roasting it in the oven.

I wonder how the original Negus would be. This was decent, with wonderful fruity port and orange, supported by warming, comforting clove and nutmeg.
