History:

Popular in the neighbouring American states of Maryland and Delaware, the Orange Crush was created in 1995 at the Harborside Bar & Grill in West Ocean City, Maryland. The Harborside proudly proclaims to be the "Home of the Original Fresh Squeezed Orange Crush", but its ownership of the cocktail is challenged by The Starboard in Dewey Beach, Delaware, where owner Steve "Monty" Montgomery claims to have "perfected" the recipe.

In support of this custody battle, Delaware's state governor, John Carney, signed House Bill 444 on August 9th, 2024, declaring the Orange Crush the state's official cocktail. Although somewhat late, Maryland's governor, Wes Moore, sought to rescue the cocktail originally created in his state by declaring the Orange Crush Maryland's state cocktail, passed by lawmakers on June 1st, 2025.
