History

Created in 2010 by Dick Bradsell at The Pink Chihuahua at El Camion in London, England.

This fluffy little pink drink is named Chihuahua (Spanish: Chihuahueño) after the smallest breed of dog and also the state of Mexico. At El Camion, the front door is painted with an artist's impression of a pink Chihuahua.

Review

Yes, this appropriately named almond Margarita-like drink is pink and fluffy – due to being sweetened and made red with pomegranate syrup (in place of triple sec) and given a foamy head by the addition of egg white.

Mine was definitely not as pink/red as in the photo. Possibly because I made my own orgeat (which had a distinctly tan/brown appearance) + used a small batch grenadine rather than Monin. The result for me was a pale pink. Still tasty & one of my favorites of 2025.

Just made with a mildly smokey artesanal mezcal, fabulous! What to call it? A Pink Perro Pelón?

Thanks for the suggestion to use mezcal. Loved your choice of name for the resulting cocktail ;p For me, the smokiness got a little lost with the other ingredients. Might try a split spirit (50% tequila & 50% mezcal) next time.

Thanks for your comment. Mezcal is such a variable beast!

This was very good. A little like a margarita but with more citrus. Very refreshing. Wished I had made a double. Very, very easy to drink.
