Made this using Olmeca Altos Silver Tequila and rich demerara syrup. The sweetness of the Carpano Antica nicely rounds out the bitterness of the fernet, and vice versa. The agave notes from the tequila ties it all together (use a flavourful tequila for this). Very nice and complex stirred sweet vermouth cocktail.
The fernet and antica formula competes for attention with the tequila much more subdued. Still a lovely nightcap with good balance between bitter and sweet. Will try a 100 % agave tequila next time instead of buen vato mixto
Fernet-forward in a lovely showcase of Fernet and Carpano Antica... The tequila expresses most in the aftertaste... I'll try this again soon as I want to try more hairier agave spirits against the dominant two brands.
While it is a nice cocktail, I feel like the tequila does not really come throug; the aroma reminds me of amaro veneziano, which is pleasant, but does not require me to mix a drink.
Was looking for a good after dinner cocktail with tequila and this is perfect. All the ingredients work extremely well together. The different flavours burst into your mouth with each sip. On my favourites.
Absolutely fabulous cocktail, with enough sweetness to overcome Fernet's roughness and allow it to shine. Fernet and Tequila seem to be a happy match that I will test on other recipes. This is for me a 5 star cocktail, with no second thoughts.
I bought some fernet branca on a whim before Christmas and it was an inspired experiment. Between this (5* for me) and The Ferrari (equal parts Fernet and Campari) my digestif needs were sated. This cocktail is delicious, but it kinda tastes like tempered Fernet - I don't get much tequila (I've used both Olmeca and Madre mescal and a combination). Am I wasting good stuff on it?
Nice use of Fernet. Note the peppermint/liquorice flavours! Added ice and two dashes Hella Mexican Chocolate bitters midway. Very nice over ice and the heat and chocolate body well complemented this rich digestif.
