The original is great, but in fall and winter I prefer to substitute pear brandy for half the cognac.

I recommend expressing and discarding the lemon twist garnish that’s specified here.

Much more lemony than I expected. Fixed with 2:1 simple syrup and it was very refreshing. I'm more of a Manhattan kind of guy so this was a real change and delight for me. Will definitely make this for friends that are not so much into whiskeys.

Used agave in place of simple syrup and was delighted to find it was still delicately balanced. This runs laps around a sidecar.

Using Tip Top's comment, we used 1 oz Cognac and 1/2 oz Bottled in Bond Apple Brandy. It was great. You do get a hint more of the apple.

Delicious Classic! Variation: Substitute Cognac with a good Calvados, whose fine an dry apple aromas round up perfect with the Chartreuse.
Left all amounts as in original receipt.

Ah ha, it's actually delicious. Leaving this comment up as a warning to properly label your containers though haha.

Oh it turns out that instead of simple syrup, I used this herbal chinese medicinal concoction that my girlfriend's mother made for me. It's supposed to be helpful for alleviating a pinch nerve, but it certainly not a good sub for sugar water. Going to try this one again tonight with the right ingredients this time. Cheers!
