Went with a 2:1 Calvados to Vermouth (Cocchi) ratio. I really liked that ratio. As stated, a simple cocktail to make yet nice, complex flavors.
Second one, I added 1/4 oz / 7.5 ml Allspice (Pimento) dram just for fun. Added a bit more depth to it.
Loving this! This is my Manhattan alternative when I want something crisp, apple, cold, and autumnal. Next time I’m adding a few more dashes of orange bitters. A fresh, thin, apple slice for looks and aromatics was a nice touch.
Very nice flavor for such a simple cocktail! Like others, I would like to play with the ratio, but maybe not all the way to a 3:1 or even 2:1. Maybe a 60:40 ml ratio.
Great and simple recipe! My version was calvados 1.0, red vermouth 0.5, and 2 dashes of orange bitters. Use the best calvados available in my case Daron Fine.
I think the rosso vermouth in this recipe overwhelms the calvados. I used the exact ingredients in the recipe but really, all I could taste was the vermouth. I’d change the proportions: 60ml calvados, 20 ml rosso vermouth, 2 dashes orange bitters.
