Haven’t tried this one for a while and was pleasantly surprised by the honey, herbaceous, and mouthfeel. Lower volume, but high on flavor!
Loving this! This is my Manhattan alternative when I want something crisp, apple, cold, and autumnal. Next time I’m adding a few more dashes of orange bitters. A fresh, thin, apple slice for looks and aromatics was a nice touch.
I dialed back the sugar and should have followed Simon. Great cocktail and the egg white really smooths out the lemon bite. Having the apple flavor in a sour is perfect for fall cocktail.
Boozy, bitter, smoky, so many things to like. Low volume, high octane. Next time Flamed Orange will be nice, similar to another favorite cocktail found on Difford’s, the Revolver.
A great way to enjoy Montenegro and rum which is a stellar combination. The bitters are spot on. For my taste I might dial back the agave to a bar spoon instead. For fun I flamed my orange zest. Cinnamon, vanilla, and the amaro round this one out nicely. I look forward to trying this one with other aged Rums.
My good friend David recommended this delicious cocktail, which is truly a great tequila cocktail. I used mole bitters which works amazing with the coffee bean and citrus garnish. Sweet and boozy. Makes a delicious after dinner drink.
Excellent margarita. Since I’m in the US, I had to settle for John Taylor’s Velvet Falernum and not Difford’s unfortunately. After some “research”, I find that doubling (almost 2.5 bar spoons) the Taylor’s Falernum worked well and with a pinch of sea salt in lieu of saline solution. I’m interested to hear what others think about this. Next time I’m trying with Meyers just because hey I’m in California. For extra kick I sometimes add a splash of Squirt (grapefruit soda) for some effervescence.
Excellent! Both dry and sweet with lots of flavor. Cynar and maraschino work together to deliver a boozy cocktail that’s nicely balanced sweet and dry.
Now one of my favorites of all time along side the Vieux Carré. Deliciously supple with spicy notes, aromatic, yet smooth and complex. A drink for anytime and has a sweetness that keeps bringing you back for more. Thank you for putting this out there, Simon.
Using Plymouth Gin and Cocchi di Torino was a clean and dry concoction. The lemon is very present and as suggested is nice served very cold.
As a Calvados lover, this was great. Instead of Dubonnet, I subbed Lillet Rouge. Both work great together. Cointreau was back a bit as well as the Angostura. Next time I’m upping the ante and using 2 dashes. Boozy and hint sweet this is a good one for a cold night...or any.
I enjoyed the sweetness and vermouth back-end of this drink. I used Barr Hill as my gin, which has honey added and close to an old Tom. Benedictine seems to bridge the vermouth and gin nicely and compliments the aroma of the bitters and zest. This drink is sweet and pair with that in mind.
An excellent rendition of this drink, distinctly orange and I love the vermouth combination. I added a dash of orange bitters. Without gold rum I used 1 oz white rum and 1/2 oz black seal rum.
Dangerously beyond sippable - nice sweetness and aroma. I had to sub kirsch and used 1 oz. of orange blossom vodka and 1/4 oz. of Maraschino liqueur. Mine was much more rosy than the picture.
An excellent cocktail and properly balanced bittersweet. As noted by others the lively color is exciting as the drink dances in the mouth long after the first sip.
This is a delicious version of the bamboo and prefer this over a 1:1 sherry and blanc combo! I used Amontillado instead of Fino sherry and worked great. Orange bitters and zest elevate the drink. My favorite low ABV cocktail.
After enjoying the Almond Old Fashioned, then came across this one with mole bitters. I subbed 2:1 syrup with agave nectar and increased the mole bitters to 10 drops to experiment. This is a great way to enjoy tequila and the three of a kind do work together here.
The Difford review above is spot on: Bone dry with cherry aromatics are followed by sweetness and spice. A wonderful drink when looking for more complexity than a martini.
Great with absinthe! Lovely sweet, cherry, honey, vanilla, and anise. Boozy, spicy, and a hint sweet. Just how I like it.
Clean and crisp. Very dependent on your selection of vermouth.
