Review:

A delicious riff on a Mezcal Negroni created by a particularly charming, talented and fabulous host. Depending on your mood/occasion, you may instead prefer to serve this cocktail over a large cube or chunk of ice in an old-fashioned glass.

Excellent drink. Mezcal and rabarbaro are of course excellent partners, but the addition of the sherry is what really makes it, bringing subtle notes and underneath its two assertive companions.

First sip I thought it was a little sweet but soon came to the conclusion it was well balanced (I used a pale cream sherry). Enough mezcal smoke and enough rabarbaro bitterness plus sherry notes.

Finally a grown-up use for the cream sherry I was given as a gift! This is a truly unexpected cocktail (as in, unexpectedly good), and definitely benefits from the dilution of ice, so I have served it in the alternative Negroni style.

Brilliant combination of complementary flavors. Was a bit rich so I added cubes and then additional mezcal which improved the balance and opened wisps of orange, smoke from the mezcal, heat from the bitters, or wait... was that smokey flavor the rabarbaro? Exellent overall, might try with a drier sherry.
