How to make:
STIR half the bourbon with three ice cubes (dry to the touch well-frozen ice, not wet ice) directly in serving glass. Add the rest of bourbon, sugar-free syrup, bitters and two more ice cubes. STIR some more and add another two ice cubes. And if you have room, add more ice before serving.
To make Sugar-free sweetener:
Stir 2 cups of powdered Xylitol Sweetener into 1 cup of water in a pan over low heat. Allow to cool, bottle and store your sugar-free sweetener in a refrigerator. The XyloSweet brand of Xylitol Sweetener performs well.

Despite being made with a dash of sweetener rather than sugar this is a very palatable Old Fashioned and many will not be able to differentiate between the classic sugar-loaded version.
Adding aromatic bitters will help the cocktail's flavour but, depending on the bitters used, is likely to add trace amounts of sugar.
