The addendum to our previous comment on this wonderful cocktail was addressed to our good host but we now realise that it may have the appearance of someone talking to themselves which, admittedly, we sometimes do. Anyway, if there's a history to this one we'd love to learn of it.
I found the reference this morning, but was waiting to reply until I'd had a chance to get behind the bar and make. I want to try with more lemon juice. Bear with me.
On the basis of comments hereunder, we were a bit trepidatious (if that's a word) that this might be a bit unbalanced. And so there was the pleasant anticipation of tinkering with a few iterations. All to be thwarted. For us this is exquisitely balanced, so fragilely (again if that's a word) that we had to serve it in a Coupe glass to ward off the sometimes dread and dead hand of dilution. We think it's a 'banger' (an excellent or memorable song...not a sausage).
Made this with 25 ml Wild Turkey 101 bourbon, 25 ml Wild Turkey 81 bourbon, 15 ml Rothman & Winter Orchard Apricot, 15 ml lemon juice, 10 ml 2:1 sugar syrup. Very tasty. I feel like this could work well with a Rye, too, so curious to try that...
A dry, not overly sweet cocktail. Bourbon is upfront, citrus mid-palate and subtle Apricot at the finish. I'm a Bourbon guy so I may try a Bottled-in-Bond (BIB) Bourbon next time.
Not at all what I was expecting. It is a bit sweet for my taste, so I would back off the syrup next time. There is a taste of apple to the drink with the mixture of the various flavours. Delightful and refreshing on a warm afternoon.
