The addendum to our previous comment on this wonderful cocktail was addressed to our good host but we now realise that it may have the appearance of someone talking to themselves which, admittedly, we sometimes do. Anyway, if there's a history to this one we'd love to learn of it.

I found the reference this morning, but was waiting to reply until I'd had a chance to get behind the bar and make. I want to try with more lemon juice. Bear with me.

On the basis of comments hereunder, we were a bit trepidatious (if that's a word) that this might be a bit unbalanced. And so there was the pleasant anticipation of tinkering with a few iterations. All to be thwarted. For us this is exquisitely balanced, so fragilely (again if that's a word) that we had to serve it in a Coupe glass to ward off the sometimes dread and dead hand of dilution. We think it's a 'banger' (an excellent or memorable song...not a sausage).

I tried increasing the lemon juice to 22.5ml / 20ml, but ended up much preferring 15ml as per the original above.

btw Simon, do you know the history to this one? We always enjoy reading the 'origin stories'.

Quite nice, but it's nicer when the syrup is removed and the brandy is increased.

Made this with 25 ml Wild Turkey 101 bourbon, 25 ml Wild Turkey 81 bourbon, 15 ml Rothman & Winter Orchard Apricot, 15 ml lemon juice, 10 ml 2:1 sugar syrup. Very tasty. I feel like this could work well with a Rye, too, so curious to try that...

used 12 YO whiskey and orgeat and 5ml more apricot trying to improve this, is just decent. 8.4/10

Nicely balanced with Ezra Brooks 99 sour mash and Rothman & Winter Orchard Apricot. Very good sour. Gets a heart!

I accidentally made this with equal parts bourbon and apricot (where are my reading glasses…) BUT it was delicious ?

A dry, not overly sweet cocktail. Bourbon is upfront, citrus mid-palate and subtle Apricot at the finish. I'm a Bourbon guy so I may try a Bottled-in-Bond (BIB) Bourbon next time.

Thought the apricot would be a bit more noticable. Not a favorite.
Would not make again.
