I went with Cocchi Dopo Teatro vermouth amaro in lieu of regular sweet vermouth in the hopes of cutting down on the sweetness and raising the complexity level. I'd make that substitution again.
Sipsmith London Dry, Carpano Classico, Regans No. 6... Immediate, obvious Martinez flavors. I like this sort of simpler take on that drink. Gotta compare this to my multitude of other Martinez recipes (head spinning).
This was an excellent aperitif. Slightly sweet, but perfect for how we were using. The gin added nice herbal flavours. This is a cocktail where the quality and taste of your vermouth will impact the final cocktail.
Interesting. I made this with a nice Dutch Genever, giving the cocktail a soft smokey flavor as a balance to the sweetness of the Vermouth and Maraschino.
