Apple brandy with complex botanical influences from both gin and Chartreuse mellowed by botanically enriched fortified wine. If you like spirit-forward...
made this with avallen, roku, cocchi di torino, green c, orange twist.
it's like a big hit on a double apple lost mary while you glumpf down a mcdonalds apple pie.
i think it may be better with a martini rosso, as the cocchi brings a lot of sweetness that's already provided by the calvados, but it was a nice autumnal warming refresher.
Obvious to others I'm sure, but I was struck on trying this cocktail for the second time how changing even just a single brand of one of the listed ingredients can make or break a cocktail. I tried tonight with Strucchi Rosso Vermouth keeping the other ingredient brands the same and it truly elevated this cocktail, enough to add to my favourites list.
We love a spirit forward cocktail and this one delivers! I traded l'Ermitage Saint Valbert for the, in the meantime overpriced and difficult to source Green Chartreuse. I don't know if it was this substitution which necessitated the addition of a splash of sugar syrup.....but we got there in the end. If colour is your thing and you are looking for a clear ruby red cocktail...you have found it.
Revisiting with laird’s 86, Plymouth gin and dopo teatro. Multilayered and so many beautiful flavours here. Be sure to balance plus/minus millilitres for your ingredients. I find Chartreuse quite strong so relatively increased the others, especially gin and applejack. Top stuff!!
Like an apple brandy-laced Martinez, with the orange influences exchanged for the complex herbs of Chartreuse. Wonderful as a nightcap; though only a bar spoon, the liqueur adds a lot.
Solid five! May add a plus to that with the right vermouth. Made mine with Antica Formula. Looking forward to alternatives. Will try it without the Chartreuse. Maybe.
