Tequila and lavender are a match made in heaven, made more complex with herbal wine notes from the vermouth and aromatised by delicately fruity maraschino...
Sipping this right now, I have made this a couple of times before. I think this is one of the best tequila based cocktails, I find there are not that many to chose from to suit my tastes, am more of bourbon and/or cognac girl. I added a tiny drop of cherry bitters.
Simply fantastic. But I didn't get such a lovely brown color - mine is more transparent (rather martini-alike). Maybe this is because of vermouth (I used Dolin)..
So many lovely flavors its hard to say wich one is the star. And the tequila its really hidden. If someone told me this was tequila based I wouldnt believe it. Used 2 dashes of lavender bitters.
Seeing everyone's comments I'm almost embarrassed to admit that I am not getting the "lavender and tequila are great together" vibe. I used some delicious homemade lavender syrup from the garden. However, it failed to mitigate the "catty" taste of tequila. My tequila wasn't bad, about the same quality as what's called for.
That said, my spouse -- who doesn't drink, except to taste things I make -- liked it. So definitely try it and see what you think.
I've been longing for ages for something I could put my bottle of Monin lavender syrup to use with. Glad I found this recipe, it's a revelation - and you can count on me trying the Last Palabra soon, too!
