Probably the best Strega cocktail I've had. Nice white cap on top of pale yellow liquid (I used Fee Bros). Classic peppery/baking spice notes from the Strega are very pronounced, but are not overwhelming and in fact I thought they were very enjoyable - maybe a nice after dinner cocktail, in cool or cold weather. The lemon juice is briefly notable, and the other ingredients contribute to the taste and appearance, but are all in the distant background, and nearly impossible to pick out. Compare to straight Strega though, and you'll really appreciate how this recipe brings out the Strega flavors and makes it very enjoyable.
I was a little concerned it would a “Strega bomb” but actually it was very pleasantly tangy with perfect sweet-sour balance, and quite fruity as well as the obvious herbal notes. Loved the absinthe spritz too, worked well here.
Exercising my degrees or separation (or rather, association?). Subbed Dolin Genepy for Strega. Cocchi Americano, of course. A larger coupe is wise. What a fortunate aperitif of sorts leading into my fatty supper and impending sedation. Just lovely flavors and floating textures. Rare, that the staunchly studious sipping session ends on a high note!
Wow. So many assertive flavors and so well balanced, smoothed by the egg white, I've got to go with a five here and a heart; thanks Matteo Rebuffo. Will be making this one again soon.
