We sympathise with other commenters who found this to be a bit sour/tart. To address this, we toyed with the idea of flipping the volumes of the liqueurs but concluded that this would do harm to the 'idea' of the cocktail. So we decided that the shortest distance between two points lay in the direction of our bottle of agave syrup, from which we added just 2.5ml. Much better for us. And we agree with other commenters that a splash of mezcal doesn't go astray.

Agreed, the recipe was a tad tart, so thanks to others below, I've reformulated to include the addition of half a bar spoon of agave syrup.

This is a favourite with myself and my friends. It’s a very smooth and easy to drink version of the classic

Found it a bit tart - could have taken a little more amaretto. Might just have been my limes though. Should have tasted shouldn’t I. Ffs

Superb just superb

I added some lime, as the orange was too dominant to my taste. Next time I would try with tequila blanco, or mix reposado with some mezcal as suggested.

Even more lime juice? Maybe it's because I live in Australia where fresh juicy limes are plentiful, but I found 5/6 oz lime was a little too sour/tart.

Made again, but took the other comments to mix the reposado and some mezcal. Added a little Margarita Bitters. Everything took the cocktail to another level,

The Amaretto adds that thing. The aroma before you drink and its on the very tail of the taste. Sippable, This drink lasts a long time. I love it.

Did It with

4 cl Reposado Tequila
1 cl non very smoky mezcal

Really tasty!

Great suggestion. We adored this with the mezcal blend.

Did it over an ice ball because I love my margaritas on the rocks. Was delightful! Will have to try with a mezcal base for some smokiness!

This is my new fave.

It occurs to me that another way of looking at this is not as an Italian Margarita but as a Mexican Mai Tai.

But either way it's delicious!

Would this margarita suffer from having a salt rim on the glass?
3rd April 2022 at 15:50
Not if you like salt. I prefer my margaritas with a couple of drops of saline solution in the cocktail but without a salt rim.

Yup. This is a good one!

Perfect balance of flavours. Liked that it was neither too sweet or sour. Will become of our "must have" margaritas.

Made this last night as a “drink of the day” to accompany a meal of Porchetta. It was a big hit with all 4 of us.

Lip-smacking good!

All four ingredients here normally bully and dominate a cocktail, so having them all together is a Champions League of Booze!
Subtle yet fighty, this innovative twist on a classic shows there's always space for improvement.

Delicious!
No question that it’s a margarita, but a drop more sweet than usual.
Served this to my wife without description, and she was shocked and delighted by the flavors.

Complex and wonderfully sweet and sour mix. The orange undertone really calms the tequila and the Amaretto marries well with the lime. Luscious.

Your description sounds a lot more appealing than mine above. It sure is a tasty cocktail.
