For those who do not like the funk of Jamaican rum, you may want to try with an over proof white agricole rhum. I used Neisson Rhum Blac from Martinique at 110 per cent proof. While missing the touch of funk, the Martinique Sunset was refreshing.

As a big rum drinker, this out unbelievable. It is very simple, and very dangerous. You MUST use the correct overproof rum. We used Wray and Nephew a Jamaican white at 126 proof. You need a white with some power and flavour. That hint of Jamaican funk does the trick. The only issue is that is drinks very easily. It tastes like a fruit punch, but do not be fooled, this is a drink with a big alcohol hit. Will definitely do again.

John, I agree with your take, and I really wish I had Wray & Neph on hand. I used Plantation O.F.T.D. and was surprised how much I liked it. But I immediately thought W & N might go over better. Agreed on all points though.
