Ingredients:
2 oz Caribbean blended rum aged 6-10 years
1 oz Mancino Vermouth di Torino Chinato
12 oz Cointreau triple sec liqueur
1 dash Whiskey barrel-aged bitters
× 1 1 serving

How to make:

  1. Select and pre-chill a Coupe glass.
  2. Prepare garnish of orange zest twist.
  3. STIR all ingredients with ice.
  4. STRAIN into chilled glass.
  5. EXPRESS orange zest twist over the cocktail and use as garnish.

Adapted from a recipe created in 2008 by Jeffrey Morgenthaler at Bel Ami Lounge in Eugene, Oregon and featured on his jeffreymorgenthaler.com. Jeff's original recipe calls for Appleton Estate Signature Blend rum and Vergano 'Americano' chinato.

The surgical madness that's required to fix this scares me... Bacardi 8, Cocchi di Torino, Campari, Luxardo Triplum, and Bogart's bitters. The aftertaste is lovely, but the chemical flavors are off-putting... I did just find your article, Jeffrey - vastly different brands. I'll be back.

Thanks for highlighting. I've amended the recipe to better represent the original and added a link to Jeffrey's site. Our previous recipe: 52.5ml Caribbean blended rum aged 6-10 years, 15ml rosso vermouth, 15ml red bitter liqueur, 15ml triple sec, 1 dash aromatic bitters.

Gotta give this five stars... I couldn't set it down. Tasted great with Combier, Campari, and Cocchi Storico; Bacardi 8 year old. Gonna switch it up next time maybe some higher proof rum and Cocchi Dopo Teatro for a bit more bitter.
