Glass:

Serve in a Martini glass

Ingredients:
5 fresh Kumquats (chopped)
1 12 oz Nonino Il Moscato Grappa Monovitigno
1 14 oz Elderflower liqueur
14 oz Sugar syrup 'rich' (2 sugar to 1 water, 65.0°Brix)
14 oz Merlot red wine
× 1 1 serving

Prepare:

  1. Select and pre-chill a MARTINI GLASS.
  2. Prepare garnish of orange zest twist and skewered white grape.

How to make:

  1. MUDDLE kumquats in base of shaker.
  2. Add next 3 ingredients and SHAKE with ice.
  3. FINE STRAIN into chilled glass.
  4. Carefully FLOAT wine.

Garnish:

  1. EXPRESS orange zest twist over cocktail and discard.
  2. Garnish with skewered grape.

Looks great and, with the citrus freshness of kumquat combined with the oily character of grappa, it also tastes great.

Absolutely outstanding. One of the most elegant cocktails I’ve ever made. Cut the syrup to 5 ml, used grenadine, and upped the wine a bit. Used 3.0 Morbida as grappa since that’s what I had on hand.

This was very good. Didn't have any kumquats so we used the juice of 1/2 a ruby grapefruit with a little of the diced zest to muddle. Did use 1/2 the amount of sugar syrup. It was a little on the sweet side, but a very good before dinner drink.
