History:

Created for Bacardí Legacy 2017 by Matthew Boyle at Field Guide & The Clever Barkeep Ltd, Halifax, Canada

This cocktail is a homage to the late Leonard Cohen, who passed away in Canada in 2016. His hit 'First We Take Manhattan' inspired me as this cocktail is a play on the 'Manhattan' & 'El Presidente.'

"In the second stanza of the song, Cohen sings 'and then we take Berlin!' This cocktail showcases Cohen, Canada and the iconic Bacardí Gran Reserva 8 Años rum in its purest form; stirred and spirit forward.

For me this is just one of those ones that doesn’t quite work, though I can’t quite point out the fault.

Balanced and bittersweet, but the ingredients just don’t seem to work as a combo. I guess the negroni is not 100% foolproof after all.
