Review:
This dry herbal aperitif cocktail is enriched with the floral tones of elderflower liqueur.
Variant:
Served on-the-rocks in an old-fashioned glass (preferably over a chunk of block ice), or as a long drink in a Collins glass with the addition of soda.
History:
Adapted from a 2019 recipe created by Andy Keir at Bruach, Dundee, Scotland. Andy's original recipe calls for Star of Bombay Gin.
"This drink was inspired by my La Classica experience, the places we visited, and drinks shared with friends. The name is taken from an Italian movie of the same name, which was filmed in Arezzo, of course the starting point for La Classica 2019. The name reflects the feeling we all shared that 1st morning.
This cocktail is essentially a reverse Martinez, chosen to showcase Martini Ambrato. I've paired it with Star of Bombay as the higher ABV and intensity of flavour ensure the presence of gin isn't lost. I discounted using an Old Tom gin here as there is enough sweetness from the other ingredients, and it also keeps the cocktail 'on brand'. The addition of elderflower helps to balance the cocktail and adds a floral finishing note."
