Serve in an Old-fashioned glass
1 oz | Patrón Añejo tequila |
1⁄2 oz | Del Maguey Vida Clásico Mezcal |
1⁄2 oz | Cointreau triple sec liqueur |
1⁄6 oz | Strucchi Red Bitter (Campari-style liqueur) |
2⁄3 oz | Blood orange juice |
1⁄2 oz | Lime juice (freshly squeezed) |
1⁄6 oz | Monin Pure Cane Syrup (65.0°brix, equivalent to 2:1 rich syrup) |
With its rich red colour, complex agave notes, and bittersweet zesty citrus, this is an "Improved" Blood Orange Margarita due to its use of añejo tequila and the addition of mezcal. My only reservation is the use of sugar syrup instead of agave syrup.
A Discerning Drinkers' crowd-led riff (particularly Chris Brislawn, Calvin Grant, Avery Garnett) on Ben Davidson's excellent Blood Orange Margarita.
