History

Created by Ted "Dr. Cocktail" Haigh, who hails from America's Delmarva Peninsula. I believe Ted's original recipe (and certainly our previous rendition of it) comprised:
60ml (2oz) Bourbon
15ml (½oz) Dry vermouth
15ml (½oz) White crème de menthe
15ml (½oz) Lemon juice
I reworked and rebalanced this to the above recipe in August 2022.

Review

A minty fresh, dry, whiskey-based palate cleanser.

Good, if a bit strange. The Bourbon and lemon are what is most prominent. The mint takes a back seat, only coming if you keep it within your palate for longer. The dry vermouth is completely absent. I do worry for the balance had the dry vermouth been more prominent, however.

Which brands did you use? I had a different experience... Tried this twice, first using a cheap creme de menthe (a blaringly menthol, garbage drink), then Branca Menta (better, but still repulsive).

While this bears a passing resemblance to a Paper Plane (one of the best “new” cocktails, IMO), this one doesn’t quite get off the ground.
