1 fl oz	Hayman's London Dry Gin
3/4 fl oz	Green Chartreuse (or alternative herbal liqueur)
1/4 fl oz	Lemon juice (freshly squeezed)
1 fl oz	Medium dry apple cider

How to make

Glassware

Serve in an Old-fashioned glass

Prepare

Select and pre-chill an OLD-FASHIONED GLASS.
Prepare garnish of lemon zest twist and mist of peated whisky.

Method

SHAKE first 3 ingredients with ice.
STRAIN into ice-filled glass (preferably over a large cube or chunk of block ice).
TOP with cider and briefly stir.

Garnish

EXPRESS lemon zest twist over the cocktail and use as garnish.
MIST with 3 sprays of peated whisky.

Adapted from a recipe created in 2017 by Katherine Boushel at Atwater Cocktail Club in Montréal, Canada. The name (meaning First Word) and indeed the ingredients of this riff on the classic Last Word, reflect Montréal's French and English influences.

Not very innovative, was not quite a noticeable differentiation from the main recipe. The apple cider was plain meh. The original is still winning.

I tried to conserve my remaining Chartreuse by cutting it 1:2 with Dolin Genepy. Used Aspall dry cider. Wasn't a fan of the resulting drink, though the aftertaste kind of has a Last Word note to it. The vegetal characters from the ingredients seemed to be too present.

Do not waste your Chartreuse on this cocktail.
Make a Last Word instead.
This variation adds nothing.
