As I was not convinced the first time, I gave it a second try. This time it was delicious. My advice is to try before adding the bitters and adjust the amount depending on the bitterness of the grapefruit juice (and the cherry brandy).
Agreed, better with bitters. However, trying the two, I prefered grapefruit bitters over orange bitters so I've added them to the recipe above. Many thanks, John and Sally.
