A classic Negroni consists of equal parts gin, Italian red bitters and sweet vermouth, garnished with an orange slice. When in season, a splash of blood...
I fancied matching the blood Orange flavour with the cola notes of punt e mes, so served it Fergroni style: 35 Botanist gin, 22.5 punt, 15 Campari, 30 juice. I felt it worked. Potent.
Surprised how good the aftertaste is. I did use Cocchi di Torino, of course. The juice takes a little edge off the Campari, but the drink remains quite bitter. Very nice. (27 Feb 2025, 11:52a)
I used a Supermarket blood orange which gave juicy orange flavours. The Campari bitterness was toned down quite a bit. An easy Negroni to drink but probably too easy for a hardcore Negroni lover.
Made (several times) with our home grown blood oranges- (always handy to have essential citrus growing a couple of metres away from the kitchen.)
Absolute late arvo winner- bumped up the vol's from 22.5 to 30ml to make it a worthwhile quencher- used Roku gin and blood orange zest twist and rub. This will be on high rotation while our tree produces fruit.
