Review:

A smooth creamy orangey dessert cocktail that is surprisingly boozy and far from overly sweet. However, be warned, it is thick and rich - just as a dessert cocktail should be.

History:

Created in 2002 by yours truly after rediscovering advocaat on a trip to Amsterdam. This cocktail was originally an "Orange Custard Martini" - every new cocktail was a Martini in those days. Firstly, for reasons of decency, I switched Martini for Cocktail in the name, then, In January 2019, I reduced the amount of advocaat a tad, swapped the now relatively obscure Tuaca liqueur for brandy, and added the vanilla bitters. I think for the better all around.

Favourite advocaat centred cocktail I’ve tried to date. Very well balanced. Think I’ll be coming back to it again!

I've tried 8 advocaat cocktails from this site, an this must be the best, followed by Beach Blonde, a very different one.

I am curious... What was the original recipe?

It was a sweet mix of 60ml (2oz) advocaat liqueur, 30ml (1oz) Tuaca, 15ml (½oz) Grand Marnier, and 7.5ml (¼oz) vanilla syrup.

I had to improvise a bit with this one because I didn't have any vanilla syrup or vanilla bitters. Instead, I used 15ml of Licor 43. I held off on using any bitters, tasted it and thought it was great without any. It was rich and creamy and citrusy and very boozy. I will try it with Tuaca next time. I might even try it with some marmalade instead of the Grand Marnier.
