Having read the comments, did a rough chop to our ginger before muddling. Had to do a fine strain, but it worked perfect. Got a lot of ginger spicy with the bourbon. The citrus added a nice sour taste. On my favourites.

We first tried the original recipe above, and whilst having a kick we thought it had to sour an aftertaste (due to the Lemon). We then tweaked the recipe To have 3 slices of Ginger, 2 shots of OJ and 1 Shot of Lemon Juice. Sweeter, but still with the kick from the Ginger and a manageable amount of sourness from the Lemon. Delicious! 4*

To my taste, this is not balanced, and the ginger is lost in the citrus. I increased the ginger from 2 slices to 4, reduced the lemon juice by 1/4 oz and increased the OJ by 1/4 oz, and liked it much better.

Nice name for this cocktail, btw--the play on "angel's share"...

I followed Rick's variation, but--having no gingerroot at hand--used a "shot" (1.5 oz) of Q's Ginger Beer, which has got a bite. We like it! An unexpected combo of flavors.
