Liked it with full lemon juice, nice dry floral flavor. Wife absolutely hated it which is abnormal as we generally have similar tastes (as long as licorice flavors aren't involved).

We went with prosecco instead of the soda. Just to make autumn a little bit more fun.

Following up on my previous comment, I just remade this with a new style gin (Gray Whale in this case). This also works very well as anticipated, although I do prefer the original with tequila.

goshdamn that's refreshing. simon, you really snapped with this one. i will be experimenting further with these flavours.

i did 20ml elderflower and 20ml suze because suze is a favourite and let me tell you.

This is so good. The interplay of Suze and elderflower is absolutely fantastic. Add to that the refreshing lemon and a bit of herbal complexity from the tequila. Delicious. It would probably work well with a softer, modern-style gin too. As it is, the perfect drink to sit on the back deck on a late April Sunday.

Found this a tiny bit too sweet.
Used mezcal instead of tequila.
20 ml Suze and Elderflower liqueur - tastes more balanced. And boozy :)

Thanks, Tahel and Matt. Agreed! I've gone with Matt's 25ml elderflower liqueur (reduced from 30ml).

Tried your specs (except still with Tequila) and Simon's specs and I marginally preferred yours, but I think I would split the difference and up the Elderflower to 25ml.

Either way, this is the first St Germain cocktail I've had where the elderflower hasn't completely overpowered everything else.

Recommend.

My first cocktail using Suze and it was not a disappointment. The Suze and elderflower work unexpectedly well with the tequila to deliver a mild yet interestingly bittersweet flavour. Not sure the name does this cocktail justice.

A bit mild for my tastes (though I substituted Gran Classico for the Suze). But I had a blast adding a white camellia flower to the lemon for the garnish.

Maybe it was the El Jimador, or maybe the fact I was a little heavy-handed with the Suze and ended up using 20 ml, or maybe because I was distracted by the music I was listening to (The Comet is Coming) and topped rather than measured the soda but.. delicious! Smoky, floral, bittersweet, refreshing. That's a 5+ from me.
