I've tried white port, tawny port and ruby port in this vintage cocktail. Tawny works best, with white port a close second, especially if a sweeter style of white port. Your choice of rum is also crucial, with the largest component, bourbon, arguably the least critical. Like so many 3-ingredient cocktails, choose brands well, and you'll be delighted.
