An agave influenced riff on a Blood & Sand. Cherry and orange laced with tequila and a smoky hint of mezcal.

I am not a big fan of mezcal as I find to too smoky. However, I did enjoy this cocktail. Yes, it has the smoky taste, but if you let the cocktail rest the smoky taste goes into the background. It is still there, but not overwhelming. Really enjoyed.

I'll be alternating between this and the Perfectly Straight Blood and Sand. Once again thanks Simon.

I thought this was a good twist on the Blood & Sand, though truthfully I'd usually rather drink a Blood & Sand than this. The flavors are really well balanced though, you can taste the agave spirits without any edge, but my indifference towards tequila prevents me from appreciating that balance too much. I think this would actually be fantastic in a highball though, it hits that boozy + refreshing + slightly sweet spot that benefits from some crisp carbonation. Will report back after I try it.

I know exactly what Mr Broad meant. The first thought that came to my mind was “menacing”. I think it’s the mezcal underlying everything else. Delicious, but menacing.

Yup, dark alleys can be menacing but a lot of fun stuff can go on down a dark alley!
