History:

The Kentucky Derby has long been associated with the Mint Julep and in 1959, the folk behind the Florida Derby turned to a famous local bar in search of a libation to serve at their own racecourse, Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach.

So, in 1959, Mariano Licudine at The Mai-Kai Polynesian Restaurant and Tiki bar in Oakland Park, Florida, created the Derby, the official cocktail of the Florida Derby.
