Ingredients:
1 12 oz Spanish brandy
1 oz Lustau Palo Cortado Península Sherry
13 oz Licor 43 Original liqueur
6 drop Bob's Vanilla bitters
× 1 1 serving

How to make:

  1. Select and pre-chill an Old-fashioned glass.
  2. Prepare garnish of lemon zest twist.
  3. STIR all ingredients with ice.
  4. STRAIN into ice-filled glass.
  5. EXPRESS lemon zest twist over the cocktail and use as garnish.

History:

Created in May 2025 and inspired by the heroic drinker featured in a vintage Cayetano del Pino & Cía advertisement. The advert featured the bodega's amontillado, but this cocktail is better with palo cortado.

No palo cortado so had to make do with amontillado, but I did have Lustau brandy aged in amontillado casks. Licor 43 works well with the other ingredients and the sweetness is just right as specified. A few drops of vanilla extract made up for my lack of vanilla bitters. Distinctive and well-balanced.
