How to make

Glassware

Prepare

Select and pre-chill a COUPE GLASS.

Prepare garnish of orange zest twist.

Method

STIR all ingredients with ice.

FINE STRAIN into chilled glass.

Garnish

EXPRESS orange zest twist over the cocktail and use as garnish.

Even tho I’m a fan, all I could taste was Mez cal, so I added an extra 5-10 ml of Abernathy and coffee liqueur respectively and good sized wedge of blood orange. Then I squeezed all the juice from the orange into the drink - I dunno, maybe 5ml? - and added me a fresh slice of orange and another dash or two of bitters just to be fair, and now I think it’s rather tasty.

Too smokey. I dont find it balanced. I added 5ml coffee liqueur and 10 ml china-china extra. Plus 5ml lemon juice and lemon zest squeeze. Then really lovely. Try it, Simon

This is beautiful and a perfect example of a cocktail where the exact ingredients matter. To achieve balance, neither the mezcal or the coffee liqueur need to be overpowering. This is very possibly my new favorite sipper.

Fan of all the ingredients here, but not of the combination.

I used St Ana Del Rio Alipús and Mr Black coffee liqueur.

Could taste the individual constituents quite distinctly but felt the need to make a different drink afterwards to take the taste of the overall cocktail out of my mouth!

Sounds like an unbalanced cocktail. Try a different, lighter coffee liqueur. Mr Black may be too much for this.

So smokey (I used Mezcal Verde Momento)! This one is a nice, slow sipper. The orange carries the finish.

My first ever home mezcal cocktail (used El Silencio) so take with a grain of salt:
A nice sipper, likely after dinner (though I tried it before). The smoke is definitely dominant but well-balanced by the Averna and Kahlúa. The orange twist is essential to the balance.
