Peychaud's or other Creole-style bitters

How to make

Glassware

Prepare

Select and pre-chill a COUPE GLASS.

Prepare garnish of orange zest twist and Luxardo Maraschino Cherry.

Method

STIR all ingredients with ice.

FINE STRAIN into chilled glass.

Garnish

Express orange zest twist over cocktail and discard. Garnish with maraschino cherry.

Nice sipper, and good to get my bottle of Suze back into circulation. I used brown cane syrup, which i tend to prefer, but didn’t find it over sweet. I will try this again but will up the Suze and lower the Lillet (which to my palate is a tiny bit too prominent, but hey we are all different)

Based on other comments we dropped the sugar syrup. Also used Americano Bianco as the aromatised wine. A rich combination of bitter and sweet; glad we dropped the syrup.

I was looking for something combined Suze and cognac, as they seemed a natural pairing to me. Added an extra 5ml Suze and could potentially go up to 20ml (total) I think. Aperitif in style but with a luxurious richness, especially given the orange and cherry garnish suggestive of late night sipping.

I have three cognac+suze in my list. This one (L'Heritage), the Charente White Negroni (which I see you have already tried and liked). The third is the Vieille Place... (halve the sugar)

As others said, too sweet. Not enough Suze. Maybe first drink suze was this subdued. Tried a spray of absinthe to balance the sweet but didn't really go well.

A tiny bit too sweet, and I wanted more Suze, but very good overall.

Quite an amalgamation of flavors that work quite well together. On the nose, the Lillet Blanc is most prominent. Lillet is also upfront but quickly gives way to the Cognac, with the bitters showing up at the finish.
