One of the most famous cocktails from the 1970s, the Harvey Wallbanger is a Screwdriver (vodka and orange juice served tall over ice) with a float of Galliano...
I had first started drinking when this was popular, but had never had one, and then they went out of style. Lovely cocktail.
Used Purity 34 Vodka from Sweden with fresh orange juice. Well balanced and just a hint of orange bitter.
made with kirkland french vodka, have tried with bottled, now also fresh OJ from fresh organic mandarins... its probably the mandarins fault but this doesnt pop like i would like. ill try again with fresh oranges.
I think I came back to this today because of a recent PUNCH article... Been messing with it (and the Freddy slant)... This was my favorite: 60 ml orange juice (Cara Cara), 40 ml Boomsma Jonge Genever, 20 ml Galliano, 10 ml 2:1 cane syrup, 4 dashes Regan's no. 6... Everything stirred! Shaking does damage... How about that?
I made this as per instructed and it was indeed quite a good drink. However it just occurred to me to try getting the herbal element from Yellow Chartreuse as opposed to Galliano Autentico and I feel like the honey-sweetness of the Chatreuse makes a very welcome substitution. (I omitted the sugar syrup as well.)
Why have I never had one of these before? It’s delicious! Oranges here are more than sweet enough, so definitely leaving out the simple syrup next time.
Hard to find Authentico these days but substituted half Galliano Vanilla and half Strega and really liked it. I agree with Kennet that a few drops of orange bitters improves it. However oranges are sweet so I passed on adding extra sugar. A great drink that I love.
