Much more gin centric than the it's cousin, the Poet's Dream. IMO a very nice aperitif, and a pleasant alternative to a dry martini. The gin leads and dominates the taste, with a distant hint of the dry vermouth, and then the distinctive mix of herbs from Benedictine flashing into prominence briefly during the finish - never sweet or syrupy.

Made as an aperitif using 50% more ingredients and putting into a coupe glass. The slight herbal bitter from the Benedictine was perfect before dinner.

A less aggressive and assertively dry martini, possibly for those who find them a bit raw, but still with a nice touch of bitterness on the finish With so few ingredients their respective qualities will be very evident of course. Very nice and refreshing cocktail.

Cognac version was also very nice. Bumped up the spirit to 45ml, split the vermouth equally between Dolin and carpano. Orange twist. A very pleasant night cap!

Pour all equal quantities of the same ingredients and it's basically a Poet's Dream, no?

Yes, indeed, the same three ingredients in different proportions. I've added links between the to cocktails. Thanks for bringing to my attention.

Lovely cocktail to toast Queen Elizabeth II on Feb 6, 2023 and watch The Crown.

Made the brandy variation with 50/50 Grand Marnier/Triple Sec in place of the Orange Curacao. A rich, smooth, boozy sipper. The variation worthy of it's own page.

I made the gin variation with Greenalls London gin and Noilly Prat vermouth. As a fan of gin martinis this had a certain very welcome ‘je ne sais quoi’ with the addition of Benedictine. Very nice. Can see this becoming a regular choice.

I made the brandy variation. Very smooth. A fine, dignified toast to our Queen.

Nice drink! Although, given its gin-heavy vibes, it should probably be named for her mother ?

But her mother was also Queen Elizabeth so maybe it is!

Did not have the ingredients to make a Dubonnet, so I looked for a cocktail to make in HM QE II's honor on this day.

Cheers Simon. Perfect drink to toast The Queen today

Substituted Galliano for Benedictine to make a version for a vegan (Benedictine, as well as Drambuie and Yellow Chartreuse, is made with honey). Not quite as good but an entirely reasonable version.

Great for after dinner. A little sweet from the Benedictine, but well balanced.

I’ve been looking for something different to do with Benedictine and this is a very refreshing drink
