To make this delightfully Italian gin, the Tosolini family dusted off an old family recipe and with their distillery being set amongst vineyards rather than fields of cereal crops, opted to base their new gin on grape distillate rather than the more usual grain spirit.
Naturally they also chose Italian juniper berries as GinT's lead botanical.
Review and Tasting
Sampled on 24/10/2017
Appearance:
Crystal clear.
Aroma:
Subdued piney juniper and black pepper with delicate candied ginger, sage, lemon zest and faint nuttiness.
Taste:
Dry and superbly clean with piney juniper and enlivening black pepper spice to the fore, with supporting complex herbal spice and distinct fresh rosemary.
Aftertaste:
Pine fresh juniper, black pepper spice and faint fresh rosemary.
Overall:
Being based on grape rather than grain neutral spirit seems to add body and faint sweetness to this classically styled yet subtly herbal dry gin. Traditionalists will be reassured by forward piney juniper, while those seeking something more contemporary will delight in its subtle herbal complexity. The very distinctive cobalt blue bottle is a sparkly bling, but in a classy way with a bottle shape reminiscent of a master carpenter's mallet (which fits in a standard speed-rail). The synthetic stopper and splayed bottle opening scream contemporary luxury.
