Review:

Sage-influenced gin shines in this herbal and delicately bittersweet late-night sipper of a cocktail.

Auto Martini

History:

"An Automobile Cocktail, a glass of gasoline with a nut in it". At least according to a quirky promotional postcard for the cocktail. There are several versions of the Automobile and for their rendition, the folk at Engine Gin turned to Frank Meier's 1936 book, The Artistry of Mixing Drinks. They added "a typical Ibiza liquor which we also soaked our bolt" but as not widely distributed, I've replaced this with Bénédictine D.O.M..

AUTOMOBILE
In mixing-glass: a dash or Orange Bitters, one-third each of Italian Vermouth, Gin & Scotch Whisky; stir well and serve.

Carpano Antica & Monkey Shoulder in mine. Somehow the orange makes it taste like chilled Cointreau.
Will make again!

Had to make do with Tanqueray, but still very good indeed. One would never be able to guess the ingredients, which turn into something else. Extraordinary!
