Review:

We do like a pun and appropriately the original recipe for this cocktail specifies Suze gentian liqueur. The flavour of gentian combines brilliantly with tequila while dry vermouth adds herbal complexity.

Great tequila drink, but Suze is powerful so may want dial it down slightly. Nice alternative to a margarita.

While I feel like I would agree with Frederic's review below, I did not have quite the satisfying experience I'd hoped. I think the x-factor is the Salers I used. I could imagine Suze (not currently in my stock) being the thing that ties this together. The Salers is just causing confusion.

The addition of the agave spirit was very inspired indeed. I tried the original version first (easier to add agave than to remove it...) and was rather underwhelmed. The added sweetness, however, helped the ingredients to merge harmoniously, and brought out the herbal tones of both the tequila and the vermouth.
