History

Created in 2017 by Juan Meyer, Norwalk, USA, who said of this drink, "One of my regulars came in and said he wants a hot toddy, but he wants it not hot, so I reached for the Suze and this is what I made."

Review

Bittersweet with cleansing citrus sourness. Vanilla and bourbon notes combine well with gentian. Apéritif in style.

This is a wonderful concoction of liquor with good balance.

A nice bitter, citrusy hot-weather cocktail with some complexity to it. I cut the Suze to 1/2 oz, which is plenty of gentian for one drink, and replaced the Amaro Nonino with Amaro Montenegro as suggested by others because one really doesn't need to deplete one's supply of Nonino for this fairly bitter and sour cooler. Worth trying with rye.

I don't think the gentian overpowers like some comments say, but the lemon sure does. Would cut that down to 22.5 ml.

Otherwise, a great cocktail.

Wow. I enjoyed this. Did not feel Suze overpowered. Used rye and monte negro since I had them. Maybe a bit too tart but that could be my lemons. Refreshing on a 107 degree day

Saw the ingredient list and was so confused I felt I had to try it..and yeah this is Suze central. No identifiable bourbon or vanilla, just a whole lotta gentian.

I'd have to disagree with Robert, the Suze is the star of the show here and is overpowering the flavors. If you like Suze, you'll like this, otherwise look for something else.

I love it. The Suze does not over-power, in my opinion. I appreciate grew fact that its not sweet.

Subbed Montenegro for the Nonino. A bit too much lemon for my taste, but otherwise a great drink. I completely get the “not-hot-hot toddy” effect; I suspect if this were served hot, the proportion of lemon juice come closer to the mark.
