1 oz | Straight rye whiskey (100 proof /50% alc./vol.) |
1⁄2 oz | Cointreau triple sec liqueur |
1⁄4 oz | Fernet Branca liqueur |
1⁄2 oz | Orange juice (freshly squeezed) |
Even with the fruity dilution of the orange juice I've added to this recipe, it remains punchy with even half the original amount of Fernet dominant. (Fernet fanciers should use 15ml (½oz).
Adapted from a recipe Pioneers of Mixing at Elite Bars 1903-1933 by Charles Christopher Mueller.

Quick review: excellent cocktail. There's a fire (the Fernet botanicals) hidden underneath the orange, and it makes for a fascinating drink. Buenísimo.
