History

Adapted from a recipe created in 2020 by Franck Audoux at the Cravan Café Bar in Paris France. This modern-day cocktail is apparently a version of a 1920s cocktail that was popular along the Riviera.

Review

Bittersweet and sweet 'n' sour, this aperitif is sure to pucker your taste buds for tasty morsels ahead.

I really enjoyed the equal parts version, but then again I very much enjoy Suze. Sweet, tart, bitter, and lightly herbal. Another solid entry in the Last Word template series.

Although I am an outspoken fan of equal parts cocktails, I also found the original version not balanced. Additional to the suggestion of Mr. Genovese (thank you!) I would try 30ml gin.

Made two half-size versions. The first, too much Suze. Second shake, shifted the balance 10 ml Suze, 20 ml Chartreuse. So much better. (11 Dec 2022, 4:09a)

Good suggestion. Let’s the Chartreuse shine through a little better.
