A Pink Gin & Ginger would also be a fitting name for this tasty alternative to a Gin & Tonic.

History:

As part of his long section on Highballs, in his 1948 The Fine Art Of Mixing Drinks David Embury notes, "Gin and ginger ale, with a dash of Angostura, is sometimes called a Gin Spider."
