This is the first time I have drunk Genever so was not sure quite what it would contribute to a cocktail. I liked the bitterness and sharpness of the cocktail and will enjoy making and drinking it again. .To assess the Genever contribution I tried some straight over ice and loved the taste, the clean bitterness was refreshing; however I need to be careful not to start thinking of dry gin as its poor cousin. I will enjoy experimenting with Genever.

I used De Kuyper Cherry Brandy and Biona Tart Cherry pressed juice. The result was delicious although a bit sweeter than my usual taste, however this may be partly nostalgia as in the gung-ho days of pre-safety ski holidays we would carry a hip flask of De Kuyper Cherry Brandy with us. This is a lovely drink despite not using Kentish cherry juice. I am enjoying it in the safety of my own flattish garden.

This is delightful. I used Hendricks Neptunia gin, “the taste of the sea in a gin” rather than LDG, as it seemed appropriate; however it is distilled in Scotland so a wetsuit might be more advisable than a bikini. I used Rin Quin Quin a la peche aperatif as this was the only peachy ingredient in my cabinet. So, despite being a first cousin twice removed from the recipe here it is peachy and orangy and is the colour f a turquoise sea.

Strega forward. I loved this drink, but did not add any ice after shaking and staring as dilute enough already with the grapefruit juice. Lovely late afternoon / early evening drink before the grown up drinks.

Straining rather than staring.
